A message from the President

This year promises to be very exciting at the Griggs County Historical Society. We will be working closely with the State Historical Society, as well as THE FRIENDS of OSCAR-ZERO, and many other volunteers in getting the State missile historical sites ready for opening. In conjunction with these sites, we are committed to establishing a COLD WAR MUSEUM inside our museum. The Cold War display will be developed using artifacts and displays from Bismarck as well as building our own. Kevin Wold along with local volunteers will start with building of displays in March.

We are in the process of purchasing the Fair Board's building just north of our complex in preparation for future expansion of the Cold War exhibit. We have made great strides in our machinery shed this past year in building elevated display areas. We will be moving a significant amount of artifacts into these areas.  Thanks to Edward, Clarence, Tom Johnson, Cokey, Augey  and others for this significant improvement. A new furnace was installed in the main exhibit hall using grant money that became available.

We plan to have another threshing bee this year. Also, we are planning our annual evening of entertainment with a pie social. All of these events continue to be well attended. Of special significance this past season was a recognition dinner for A.K. and Florence Johnson and Willie and Merle Haerter for their retirement from active participation  with the Historical Society. Both of these couples have had long-term working relationships with the museum. Thank you again A.K., Florence,Willie and Merle.

Orville Tranby, President
